Education
Amanda Tomczyk, that's me, studied photography at Savannah College of Art and Design, in Savannah, Georgia. In 2001, I completed a bachelor of fine arts degree in photography. I fell in love with print making and enjoyed learning the art of lighting. The greatest thing I learned though my education was how to push myself to try new techniques. The first wedding I photographed was my mother's in 1996. Since that day I have photographed many weddings across the US, and I quickly broadened out to shoot all types of events and occasions. Luminescent Photography was founded as a result of many years of passion for wedding and event photography. While wedding photography is still a vast majority of my work I began a second web site, seattlerealestatephotos.com, to showcase my real estate photography. I enjoy the changes of both types of photography and I plan to continue to grow my business in both directions.
Inspiration
I began photographing the world around me at an early age, when I was 9 my father gave me my first camera. I have traveled the world with my dad, seeing and recording all of it along the way. My education has developed my sight which allows me to appreciate even the finest details and make the common things more interesting.
The arrival of my daughter, enriched my focus to record life and since then I have taken great interest in photographing families, maternity portraits and children of all ages. I enjoy capturing the moments of infancy and recording those precious milestones of life. My photography has taken on a new dimension as I capture the moments the way I think only a mother can. I take my love of life with me to every photography shoot.
Philosophy
The images that I capture are created by the way I'm able to influence the equipment I work with. I have chosen my camera specifically for it's capabilities and I do not shoot in program settings. I really enjoy the flexibility my equipment offers, allowing me to photograph even in dim lighting situations. I use studio lighting, umbrellas and soft boxes, and of course natural lighting when it's possible. After photographing so many weddings, the experience has trained me to pay special attention to little details others may miss. I enjoy telling a story with my photography. I use a mix of styles including photojournalism and a few posed photographs.
Wedding Photography
On your wedding day here's what you can expect. I will arrive on time ready to shoot from start to finish. I am organized and I work from a shot list, so your posed photos will fly by effortlessly. I will remain in the shadows following you through the day. I stay out of the way and yet there for the key moments. The greatest benefit of having two photographers is that there will be excellent coverage from different angles and positions. I capture as many of the guests as I can during the reception. I enjoying going from table to table so don't worry about putting out those disposable cameras. I will sit down and take a break while everyone is eating and then I will continue to photograph once people are finishing up. Many of my wedding packages include a second photographer and I highly recommend it. My assistants are very well trained to match my style and have worked with me on a number of weddings.
