Education

Amanda Tomczyk, that's me, studied photography at Savannah College of Art and Design, in Savannah, Georgia. In 2001, I completed a bachelor of fine arts degree in photography. I fell in love with print making and enjoyed learning the art of lighting. The greatest thing I learned though my education was how to push myself to try new techniques. The first wedding I photographed was my mother's in 1996. Since that day I have photographed many weddings across the US, and I quickly broadened out to shoot all types of events and occasions. After arriving in Seattle a few years ago I have photographed more than 25 weddings, which I feel has been a continuation of my education.

Inspiration

I began photographing the world around me at an early age, when I was 9, and my father gave me my first camera. I have traveled the world with my dad, seeing and recording all of it along the way. My education has developed my sight which allows me to appreciate even the smallest details and make the common things more interesting.
The arrival of my daughter, Nadia, enriched my focus to record life and since then I have had several maternity and baby photo shoots. With each passing moment, Nadia changes, grows, and learns something new and I feel such a great responsibility to capture these memories. My photography has taken on a new dimension as I capture the moments that a mother savors. I take my love of life with me to every wedding and event that I photograph.

Philosophy

The images that I capture are created by the way I'm able to influence the equipment I work with. I really enjoy the flexibility my equipment offers, allowing me to photograph even in the less ideal lighting situations. I use studio lighting, umbrellas and soft boxes, but really enjoy utilizing the natural light that is available to me. I love the little details and strive to not miss a thing at the events I photograph. After photographing so many weddings, the experience has trained me to pay special attention to specific details others may miss, not only at weddings, but at all events. My preferred method of photographing an event is a way that highlights the true meaning of the event, whether it's your company's Christmas party, or your own wedding day.

Wedding Photography

On your wedding day here's what you can expect. I will arrive on time and with my assistant, Amanda Freeman. "The Amanda's", as we are commonly referred to, will be there from start to finish and will help keep your day running smooth. While working as a team, your posed photos will fly by effortlessly and they will not take up the day. The greatest benefit of having two photographers there is that there will be excellent coverage from different angles and positions, which means that nothing will be missed. Amanda and I have been assisting each other's wedding photography for more than 3 years, so our styles and expertise compliment one another very well.
